Unlock the Flow: Questions Every Creator Should Ask

I’m sitting at my computer cleaning up my tabs thinking about all the great ideas I’ve had for my work and my life and all the amazing ideas I’ve heard from clients that are just…… sitting collecting dust. As you’re reading this, I’m sure something is coming to mind that you once felt excited about and maybe even took action on, but now it's dusty or forgotten amidst the tabs and projects that demanded your time and attention.

Or maybe, also like me, you have an active project going that you really care about and it’s just not taking off the way you thought it would. You’re wondering why it’s just… not working, and thinking maybe it’s time to add it to the shelf of other dusty ideas, and go back to the real world because it just wasn’t meant to be.

But here’s the uncomfortable truth: sometimes (lots of times) it’s not the idea that’s broken, and it’s not that we lack the skill or luck to achieve it...it’s that we carry beliefs, and habits that stop the flow of momentum and make us give up way too early on.

So what if the evidence of the idea “not working” is actually perfectly on time showing you exactly where you are being invited to heal?

Healing the underlying stories and the habits that support them will not only fuel your momentum, it will also heal layers and layers of stuck beliefs around worthiness, perfection, success, and more.

Here are 9 questions you can ask yourself to begin digging in:

Ask yourself:

  1. Is my project not working—or have I forgotten that some things can just be for me, and just be for fun? (for when we attach too much pressure on THIS idea being the one that works)

  2. Is my project not working—or am I just used to doubting myself?

  3. Is my project not working—or am I comparing myself to someone else?

  4. Is my project not working—or am I waiting for permission to take up space?

  5. Is my project not working—or have I confused success with external validation? (for when we let what other people think dictate if we are proud of our work or not)

  6. Is my project not working—or have I simply not made the time and space to freely create without expectation? (creativity takes time and likes to experiment)

  7. Is my project not working—or have I abandoned my true creativity to make it more “palatable”?

  8. Is my project not working—or am I avoiding a messy first draft? (every first draft SHOULD BE messy)

  9. Is my project not working—or am I stuck in the habit of procrastinating putting myself out there? (you’re ready, put it out)

For me? It’s #1. 🫣 Which one is it for you?

The stories we tell ourselves about why something isn’t working matter. They show us exactly where we’re not yet free—where our creativity is restricted and blocked.

Some stories are like locked doors, holding us back from the joy and freedom we crave. But here’s the good news: when we take a step back, notice the belief patterns those stories highlight, and counter them—click—the door opens. We’re able to move forward untethered.

The mindset work matters. But so does action—action reinforces belief shifts, and belief shifts make action easier.

Even if the thing you make isn’t “good” (by whatever impossible standard you’re holding), never underestimate the confidence that comes from saying fck it and doing the thing anyway. That’s you saying YES to yourself in a world that’s trained you to say no.

Every time you do that, you chip away at the old story of “I’m not good enough unless my results are perfect.” Your actions literally force your mind to update.

And if you think this isn’t for you, it is.
Creativity isn’t just art—it’s everything inside you that’s waiting to be expressed in and through your life. We are all creators. Exploring that is not only fun and beautiful—it’s profoundly healing.
